Beyond Thunderdome

"All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome..."

Friends, enemies and frienemies of mine are aware that I have this sick fascination with the Mad Max movies. The other night I was watching Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome for the 32nd time when it struck me how completely insane the song “We Don’t Need Another Hero” is. It’s production is such quintessential 1980s “rock” cheese that it deserves a book (well, a blog post) of it’s own. And the lyrics! They’re basically a “Hands Across America”-esque plea for the children of Thunderdome. Truly amazing…

We Don’t Need Another Hero
(T. Britten, G. Lyle)
Producer: Terry Britten

Out of the ruins
Out from the wreckage
Can’t make the same mistake this time
We are the children
The last generation
We are the ones they left behind
And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it
Living under the fear ’till nothing else remains

We don’t need another hero
We don’t need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome

Looking for something we can rely on
There’s got to be something better out there
Love and compassion, their day is coming
All else are castles built in the air
And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it
Living under the fear ’till nothing else remains
All the children say…

We don’t need another hero
We don’t need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome

What do we do with our lives
We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a life
Or end in the dark
Give it all or nothing

He is currently listening to the song "Words" by Doves. If you must contact him, he prefers that you do it on myspace.

This country will give you a war if you want it, and it will give you all the consumer benefits of a system that creates war, if you want it, while keeping the war itself safely stashed away. And if you’re not satisfied, you can always get a lap dance.
